Evaluation

Evaluation   Initial Research Pre Production Production Post Production Initial Research I created a documentary titled 'Fashion in the North East' as part of the regional identity project given by 'Sunderland Culture'. Almost immediately after reading through the brief i was set on the idea of adding a fashion component to my final project as it was very fitting to my interests and my personal regional identity. I wanted the documentary to be a showcase of north east talent, small businesses, local fashion brands etc, while educating people on the history of fashion in the north east and how it has evolved over time. I chose to do this in the form of a documentary as being in the target audience age range myself, I thought about what form of media I would most enjoy seeing this represented in and I landed on a documentary. This was due to the fact I can display as much information as possible, which I felt I couldn't do had I completed this in the form of a poster ...

Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment Risk Assessment Documentary from lucybaker32 I have completed a risk assessment for my regional identity project titled 'Fashion in The Northeast', I am doing this in the form of a documentary therefore I created a Risk Assessment (pictured above) to highlight all the risks I may come across during production. When going through the possible risks I may tackle, I found that the hazards I may face were Cold Environment, Manual Handling, Trip Hazard, Physical Fatigue, Stress / Anxiety and Nuisance Noise / Vibration. I acknowledged who would be exposed to these hazards ( the Cast and Camera Crew) and the level of risk they would be exposed to. I also went into great detail on the measures that will be put into place to minimize the risk, then I identified the level of risk after these control measures would be put into place. I also filled out details like the production name, organization, production address, producer / editor, start date and end date, d...

Fashion in the North East Documentary Focus Group

Image
Fashion in the North East Documentary Focus Group I constructed a focus group to gather feedback on my draft footage for my documentary, I did this in audio form by asking questions and recording my peers answers. I asked 11 questions to ensure I gathered as much feedback as possible, the answers i received will help determine the choices I make regarding my documentary and i will make changes to my plan according to the feedback I got. These are the questions Focus Group Questions Do you think the questions I asked were suitable to the theme of the documentary? Based on this interview alone, would you be interested in watching my documentary? What else would you expect to see in my documentary from watching this interview? Do you think this appeals to the target audience of 16 - 25 year old's? Do you think this fits the theme of Sunderland Culture? Do you have any ways I could improve on my documentary based on this interview? Have you ever watched a documentary with a similar to...

Types of Documentaries

Types of Documentaries There are six different sub genres of the documentary film genre itself, these are poetic, expository, participatory, observational, reflexive and performative. These modes establish a way that the documentary will be constructed and set up certain expectations for the viewers. Poetic - This mode of documentary became widely popular in the 1920s, a poetic documentary is often non linear and lacking a clear narrative thrust. They rely heavily on juxtaposition of images and sound to create a mood or tone. Through this, the audience are shown an abstract, subjective, representation of reality that is achieved through techniques such as emphasized visuals and a narrative organised to fit the mood of the documentarian or documentary rather than the linear, logical organization that films followed prior to this. This type of documentary often had the intention of providing a biased, subjective reality to help shape how the audience felt on the subjects covered in...

Analysing existing products

Analysing Documentaries The Future of Fashion with Alexa Chung I watched the first episode of a Vogue docuseries titled 'The Future of Fashion with Alexa Chung' to help me gain perspective into how a fashion documentary should be constructed and give me ideas I can put into use when creating my own documentary. This was a short documentary and was 11 minutes long, which I found helpful due to the fact my own documentary will be about the same time frame. I found that the first minute of the documentary was shots of the filmmaker and a voiceover behind a montage of videos relating to the subject of the documentary, giving the viewer an insight to what they are about to watch. Followed by this, the documentary title was displayed in a large font accompanied by the same montage of fashion billboards setting the theme of the video. There were many shots of the filmmaker talking directly to the camera which leads me to believe that this documentary was created in a participatory sty...

Regional Identity survey results

Image
Regional identity survey As part of my research into the audience for this project, I chose to construct a survey monkey that I shared around my social medias so that I could get a wide range of different people to participate in completing it. The questions that appeared on the survey were fashion related to see what things people would be interested in seeing in my documentary whilst also making sure that the target audience would be interested in the content I will be providing. The first question that I asked was 'How old are you?'. I asked this question so I could get an idea of whether the people responding were part of the target audience age. I found that the 17 people who answered this question were all in the target audience age range. 47.06% of people were in the 16-17 age bracket with 29.41% of people aged 18, 17.65% aged 19 and 5.88% aged 20. Through this I found that the majority of people partaking in my survey were aged between 16 and 17. he second question tha...
